Laerskool Kreft Primary was established in 1947 and was named after Dr HHG Kreft a former director of education. Mr A. Barnard was appointed as Laerskool Kreft’s first principal with 382 learners. The school started out with Standard (St). 2 ( Gr 4) to St. 8 (Gr 10) classes. In 1954 St. 9 (Gr 11) and St. 10 (Gr12) classes were added. The school grew so fast that in 1956 the school divided into two separate schools namely Kreft and Hoërskool Kempton Park. Today the school is the home for 1090 pupils.

In 1958 Kreft became a primary school. Grade (Gr) 1, 2 and St. 1 (Gr 3) classes were added. Students from the higher grades were moved to Hoërskool Kempton Park. The current principal mr J Smuts took over in April 1994. Previous principals were mr S Harmse, W J Jordaan and J De Waard. As the community changed, Kreft became a bilingual school and eventually it was renamed as Laerskool Kreft Primary in 2008. The school song was also rewritten to reflect the new ethos.
