Breakthru Church International 4.02

Breakthru Church International (BCI) was originally named New Zion Christian fellowship (NZCF) after the catholic community where it originated (also known as St. Joan of Arc, Orthman Road). It was founded by Hilton & Rhoda Toohey in August 1984. Hilton & Rhoda are products of the Roman Catholic charismatic renewal but were born again in an ecumenical outreach held by African Enterprise’s, Michael Cassidy in the Woodlands community centre in 1975. They moved to the catholic mission in Orthman Road in 1979 as part of its witness of radical racial, religious and denominational reconciliation. Many of the people they impacted during those years became the founding families of the new church plant.
